2009 Rookie Quarterback Profiles
Ready or not, here they come. The "big" three - Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez and Josh Freeman highlight a pretty weak quarterback class in this year's NFL Draft. "Would have benefited from another year in college" That will be a common theme as draft day approaches. There is no sure fire stud in the group, but there is plenty of upside and long term potential. Young studly QB's are like gold in dynasty leauges, so you'll want to know who is going to provide the most fantasy upside in the long term. Be patient with all of these guys though, because the returns wil not be immediate.
Matthew Stafford:
College – Georgia (Junior Season - 3,459 yards, 25 TD's, 10 INT's, 1 Rushing TD)
Height/Weight – 6’3” 237 lbs.
Dynasty Draft Grade – 1st round

Questions – Turning his great tools into great results
Ideal Fantasy Landing Spots – Detroit
Comments – While Stafford is an underclassman, he has started for the Georgia Bulldogs for 3 years. He came to Georgia as a top flight High School recruit, probably the best QB in the nation. And while his college numbers will not wow you, he does have a strong arm, solid size and the desirable skill set to be a top flight QB in the NFL. He has always had big tools, but has yet to really show that in game situations consistently. He can fall a little too in love with his arm at times, but if he is brought along properly, he is a stud in the making.

Questions – Experience
Ideal Fantasy Landing Spots – Seattle, San Francisco
Comments – Sanchez is the first USC QB to come out of college early since Todd Marinovich. He would have benefited tremendously from staying at USC for his senior year. His head coach Pete Carroll even said as much. But, he will be an NFL QB when he gets drafted later this month. He possesses a good arm, size and athleticism. Sanchez is an accurate passer and his standout physical abilities might tempt his head coach to press him into action early in his career. He is the most likely QB in the draft class to be at least serviceable from the moment he takes a snap, but Sanchez would be better served to "redshirt" his rookie season, much like former USC standout Carson Palmer. He will definitely be the second QB taken on April 26th and you should give him strong consideration anytime after the 1st round in dynasty drafts.

Questions – Consistency, Adapting to the NFL
Ideal Fantasy Landing Spots – Jets
Comments – Yet another underclassman QB (seeing a trend here?), Freeman was a three-year starter at Kansas State. He put up some very good numbers in college, which is somewhat deceiving because a good chunk came against lesser competition. His attributes and skill set are similar to that of a video game QB (think NFL Blitz) but he is very much a project at the next level. The ultimate high risk / high reward selection, you will have to remain patient with him to reap the benefits of his sky high upside.

College – Sam Houston State (Senior Season - 3,355 yards, 27 TD's, 13 INT's, 5 Rushing TD's)
Height/Weight – 6’2” 225 lbs.
Dynasty Draft Grade – 4th round
Player Comparison – Kellen Clemens
Questions – Attitude, Accuracy
Ideal Fantasy Landing Spots – New Orleans, Indianapolis

The results from his senior season were pretty pedestrian, which further taints his draft status. Still, he will find at least a few GM’s that believe in his talent.
