Nature of the Beast - Week 2 Review

Quarterbacks

Mark Sanchez is good.  He isn't going to post outstanding fantasy numbers this season, but he has the "it" factor and his Dynasty value is skyrocketing.
Jamarcus Russell continues to struggle.  He is still a talent that deserves to be on your Dynasty roster, but he is not going to score you worthwhile fantasy points, and unfortunately neither will those he throws to either.
Kevin Kolb threw the ball over 50 times.  In a tough situation trying to keep up with the Saints offense, he managed to put some numbers on the board.  It also didn't help that Philly ran the wildcat way too often this week making it tough for any QB to find rhythm.  QB controversy talks will be starting soon in Phily.  We don't see it happening yet, but he will likely be starting in Week 2 and the rumour mill is brewing.
Matt Schaub...So this is what all the hype was about!  He had a monster performance in a shootout with the Titans.  This is what he is capable of when healthy and the team is running on all cylinders.  We would like to see a little more consistency before we become true believers.
Carson Palmer owners rejoice.  The Bengals showed up to play and Palmer finally got some help.  Expect this trend to continue.
Byron Leftwich is throwing a ton.  Not because he is good, but because his team is really bad.  Leftwich has value by default.
Aaron Rodgers is heating up, but he is getting hit a ton with a issues at the Tackle position with an injury to O-Lineman Chad Clifton.  His team hasn't been as dominant as we expected, in fact Greg Jennings went catchless in Week 2, but this trend will not continue...hopefully.  He will face off against St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland and Tampa Bay all before mid season. Nice!
Kyle Orton is becoming comfortable in the Denver offense.  He looked much better this week, although boring. We'd like to see Orton a couple more weeks in this offense.
Eli Manning...Plaxico Who? Eli has a legitimate WR corps.  He is also still growing as a player.  Scary.
Jay Culter is improving.  By mid season he will be beastly again.
Kurt Warner was extremely efficient this weekend.  People were questioning if Todd Haleys departure was the reason for Warners Week 1 perfromance.  It looks as though the real problem was the absence of Boldin and Breaston.

Running Backs

Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells continue to split touches, but Hightower is the lead dog here for now. Beanie's two fumbles on Sunday (1 lost) are not going to help his cause for more carries.
Matt Forte is getting shut down. The Chicago offense is still developing and Forte is still going to get his...be patient with him.
We said it last week. Cedric Benson is a workhorse. If he can keep running like he is, the Bengals are going to be able to do some things on offense. He could fall off at any moment, but for now he is a solid RB2.
Brandon Jacobs will get it going. Two divisional opponents focused on shutting down the run game is a tough way to start the season. Expect a big Week 3.
The Panthers running game (and offense in general) has not got going yet. Future beast Jonathan Stewart is making the most of his limited touches, but will need to earn some goal line carries to earn a spot in your starting lineup.
Darren Sproles was a popular guy last week and he backed up the hype. He is still not a feature back but will be a major part of what the Chargers do this season. Solid RB3 / Flex player with upside if Ladainian Tomlinson misses additional time.
Ray Rice has a problem and his name is Willis McGahee. Double R received a ton of offseason hype and while he is a legit high upside dynasty prospect, this year will be full of inconsistencies.
Fred Jackson is going to cut into Marshawn Lynch's touches this year. Don't get us wrong, Marshawn is a beast, but Fred Jackson is a player. Dynasty value rising.
It has yet to be determined how Marion Barber III's injury will affect his availability in the coming weeks, but if he misses time Felix Jones and Tashard Choice are going to get a chance to increase their Dynasty stock.

Wide Receivers

Mario Manningham
has our attention. Super Mario has been a very solid WR option for Eli Manning and should continue to produce.
The Bears wideouts are still jockeying for position. Last week, Earl Bennett was the flavor of the week. This week, it is Johnny Knox. Both players, along with
Devin Hester
, will have fantasy value. How much will be sorted out as the season goes on.
Marques Colston is working his way back into the elite WR tier. Drew Brees is throwing a ton as usual and Colston is his go-to guy. Look for a huge season and plenty of TD's.
Andre Johnson is a beast. Sure, he had a clunker in Week 1, but he more than made up for it with 10 catches, 143 yards and 2 TD's in Week 2.
Julian Edelman is a legit Dynasty prospect and a Wes Welker clone. His short term value is closely tied to the health of Welker. Long term, he is a guy you want on your roster.
Mike Walker stayed healthy long enough to go for 6 catches, 106 yards and a touchdown Sunday. Whether he can stay healthy all season remains to be seen, but his talent is worth a pick-up.
Greg Jennings never caught less than 3 passes in a game since Aaron Rodgers has taken over the helm. He was held without a catch on Sunday. Don't expect to see that again this season, especially with Rodgers finding his groove.
Roddy White is still an elite WR option, but Tony Gonzalez is certainly cutting into his targets, especially in the red zone.

Tight Ends

Tony Gonzalez will not be doing much blocking in the Falcons offense.  He is as productive as ever.
Brent Celek is as good as advertised.
Jason Witten has been underperforming.  Not terribly, he has been getting in the end zone, but he hasn't yet given us the yardage totals we expected.
Kellen Winslow and Jerramy Stevens - are getting tons of targets.  Not reliable in the long run, but there are some points to be had here.
Todd Heap scored again.
Owen Daniels is Schaubs most reliable 3rd down target.
Dustin Keller is a nice security blanket for Sanchez.  Keller is going to have a great season.
Greg Olsen and Jay Cutler are still trying to find their groove.  Give it a few more weeks before panic sets in.

Random Notes:
Darrelle Revis is really really good.  He shut down Andre Johnson in Week 1 and Randy Moss in Week 2.  Pay close attention when your WR1's are matched up against him.
