Nature of the Beast - Week 3 Review
Quarterbacks

Peyton Manning is super efficient.  He is scoring very quickly and passing the ball a ton.  The loss of Anthony Gonzalez hasn't seemed to slow the offense down any.  Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon are proving to be reliable replacements.
Kevin Kolb: Can someone say Quarterback controversy in Philly?  A controversy is probably not warrented, but Kolb is proving he can produce.
Mark Sanchez is a stud in the making.  He looks comfortable and poised.  Dynasty owners like the rushing TD also, but may ask him to stop throwing his body around.
Huge numbers for Matt Schaub the last two weeks (following an awful Week 1 start).
We would like to see more from Aaron Rodgers.  A good Week 3 has owners smiling, but this is the Rams people.  The Packers O-line is still in trouble.
Jason Campbell is a really good QB on an awful football team.
Brett Favre can still make a throw.  The Vikes brought him in to win them a couple extra regular seasons wins.  Greg Lewis made an amazing catch.
Joe Flacco broke the 300 yard mark again...against the Browns.  The Ravens are letting him throw a lot.
Chad Pennington is hurt and it looks like the season ending variety. Henne looked very average in relief.
Matt Stafford needs to connect with Calvin Johnson more often.
Marc Bulger is hurt and the Rams are very, very bad.  A 13 game losing streak in fact.
Jamarcus Russell has a loooong way to go.  His 41.3% completion percentage is severly hurting his team.
Kurt Warner should be asking the Cardinals coaching staff why they don't ever run the football.
The Browns do not have a QB they can count on and they have a very bad team.  Stay away from this one.
Byron Leftwich has been demoted to #3 on the Bucs QB depth chart.  Josh Johnson gets the start Week 4 with rookie Josh Freeman backing him up.  We will likely see Freeman after the bye.

Running Backs

Maurice Jones Drew
: Beast
Adrian Peterson: Two straight games not breaking the century mark.
Matt Forte: Who?
Steve Slaton: Who?
Pierre Thomas should have played the entire game.
Steven Jackson is finally getting the touches he deserves.
Apparently LeSean McCoy is going to be in timeshare with Brian Westbook.  This makes sense from both a reality and fantasy perspective.  It was only a matter of time this would happen, just a little more quickly than expected.
Knowshon Moreno is being integrated into a larger role into the Broncos offense.  His value will start to climb.
Chris Wells has no role in the Cardinals offense.
Kevin Smith is super reliable.  If Stafford starts finding Megatron more often, Smiths value will climb. Check that shoulder injury though.
Ray Rice is getting consistently around 10 carries and 5 receptions per week, enough to start as a flex player.  Until he gets goal line carries, his ultimate value is limited.
You should feel confident starting Ahmad Bradshaw as a #2/3 RB or top Flex player depending on league size.  He is really good.
Marshawn Lynch should be smiling.  Fred Jackson had an average performance in Week 3.  Lynch returns from suspension in Week 4.
Donald Brown is better than Joseph Addai.  Addai still does look ok.
Frank Gore is hurt.  We don't know how bad yet, but any sort of lingering injury changes the face of the 49ers here on out.  Crabtree?
Willie Parker saved himself his starting gig this weekend.  So did Julius Jones, Willis McGahee and Fred Taylor.  They all remain servicable.

Wide Receivers

Pierre Garcon should be on your fantasy radar. He may not put up huge numbers once Anthony Gonzalez returns, but he brings a dynamic playmaking ability to this offense and he already seems to be on the same page with Peyton. This year's Steve Breaston? Perhaps.
Kevin Walter is back and he is legit. The Texans offense is clicking on all cylinders right now and Walter's return should help Andre Johnson as well.
Walter's teammate, speedster WR Jacoby Jones has flashed some skills as well. He likely won't get enough looks to be fantasy worthy, but keep an eye on him.
Any Raiders WR is going to be hit and miss all season. Chaz Schilens should be back soon, but there are just not enough completions to go around at this point to recommend any of them.
Greg Lewis made a sick catch on Sunday to win the game, but it is his teammate Percy Harvin that has been making the plays consistently to start his NFL career. He is a developing beast.
Jay Cutler seems to be spreading the ball around to all of his receivers. Devin Hester had the game-winning TD and 76 yards, Earl Bennett chipped in 4 catches for 80 yards and waiver flavor Johnny Knox caught a 7 yard TD as well, his only reception of the game. We like Hester the best because of his growth as a WR and his big play potential, but all three are solid deep league options.
Nate Burleson is looking very solid in his bounceback from ACL surgery last season. He will likely be inconsistent, but should remain a decent WR4 moving forward.
High priced free agent pick-up T.J. Houshmandzadeh has yet to show anything after the catch, but he will continue to catch 4+ balls per game and should get redzone looks moving forward.
Dwayne Bowe was inactive on Sunday and it showed. Cassel passed for two TD's, but only had 90 yards passing, albeit against a tough Eagles defense. The Chiefs need Bowe to get healthy in order to compete.
If New York Giants Steve Smith can continue to get redzone targets, his value will continue to rise. He remains a very good PPR asset.  He will catch between 80 and 90 balls this year.
Michael Crabtree...where are you?
Eddie Royal...Who?
DeSean Jackson has arrived. He has matched his receiving TD total from his rookie season. Look for him to continue to be a high end WR2 this season.

Tight Ends

Vernon Davis
blew up. In a good way. With a 7 catch, 96 yard, 2 TD performance against the Vikings, Davis finally flashed some of that Top 10 TE potential. There is talk that he is in fact a changed player, but that remains to be seen. Keep an eye on this situation, but do not hesitate to snatch him up if you are a risk taker, because someone defintely will.
Greg Olsen
finally had a solid fantasy performance. Expect more of these types of games as the season goes on. Cutler has integrated all of his receiving options pretty well so far, but Olsen will develop into his go-to.
John Carlson is going to be a stud, but without Matt Hassleback in the lineup, his value suffers a bit. He has only had two big games with Seneca Wallace under center over and 7 or 8 mediocre ones.
Jeremy Shockey continues to play pretty well. In the Saints high-powered offense he will remain a low-end TE1.
Alge Crumpler is massive. As long as Bo Scaife is out though, he seems to be holding off Jared Cook for playing time. If you are desparate, you could do worse because Kerry Collins does like his tight ends.
Visanthe Shiancoe has yet to get involved in the Vikings offense like he was last year. Maybe he is just not on the same page as Favre or maybe the young WR's are stealing his looks. Or maybe he is just not that good. Any way you slice it, he remains an inconsistent fantasy play this year.
Don't expect Brandon Pettigrew to be any more than a bye week spot starter this year. Matt Stafford has done a pretty good job of spreading the ball around, which is promising for his development, but will limit Pettigrew's fantasy impact.
