Nature of the Beast - Week 8 Review
Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers is an absolute fantasy Beast.  He is tough (physically and mentally), can make every throw, and is actually quite elusive as a rusher.  He has moved into the #2 position in our Dynasty Quarterback Rankings, and there is little evidence against him from not holding this spot securely for some time.  He is surrounded by solid receiving talent,  Ryan Grant (nothing sexy about his game, but he is rushing for a solid 4.4 ypc) is good enough to open up the pass game, and the Packers have no probelm opening up the passing game.  The amount of hits he is taking has us very concerned however.

Brett Favre is still playing at an elite level.  Now get this...he has Dynasty value as well.  Surrounded by ridiculous offensive talent, the situation in Minnesota is essentially built for Favre to succeed.   If the success continues deep into the post season, don't be surprised to see him back under center in 2010.  I know, this is a bold statement, but this is Brett Favre we're talking about here, he does love to destroy the fantasy value of young QB's beneath him, and lets face it, he is really good.  On a side note, if you have the opportunity to land any of the young WR talent on the Vikings roster, grab them now.  What they are learning from Favre is invaluable.  They will all be better receivers because of it.

Tony Romo has found himself a weapon in Miles Austin.  After a slow start to the season, he has emerged the last 3 weeks with just over 900 yards passing 8 TD's and 0 Interceptions.  Owners can finally relax, he is a high end QB1 and can be started weekly regardless of matchup.

Running Backs

Ray Rice
may not be the goal line back outright, but he is certainly the feature RB in Baltimore. Plus, it was good to see him get a few carries inside the redzone on Sunday, converting a TD on 3rd and 7 to put away the Broncos. At this point, Ray Rice is matchup proof after putting up solid outings against some very good defenses in the past few weeks. You will find him at Number 5 on our updated Dynasty Rankings RB list.

Steven Jackson owners rejoice, he has scored a TD this season. He has been a yardage machine this season, with only TDs keeping him from fulfilling his Top 5 potential. The Rams are a very bad football team and he is basically carrying them on his back right now. He is one of only a handful of backs that is not in any kind of timeshare and as long as he remains healthy, he is a solid RB1/2 for the rest of 2009.

Sure, he scored 2 TDs on Sunday, but Ladainian Tomlinson is just about finished. He only managed 56 yards on 18 carries and is plodding along for 3.4 yards per carry this season. He has scored all three of his TDs against the Raiders and they are not on the schedule again until 2010. Yes, he is still startable as a RB3 / FLEX player and there are a few good matchups left for him, but he is a shell of his former self at this point. Unless you are dealing next to nothing for him, do not even bother trying to buy low.

Wide Receivers

It appears that Miles Austin is here to stay.  He looks to be a more complete WR than Roy E. Williams with better stop-start speed and ability to break tackles.  There is no way he is a buy low option at this point, so don't even try.  If you are dying to land this guy on your Dynasty Roster, wait for him to cool off some.  Try to buy him with the "couple week wonder" argument, and be willing to pay slightly more than you would like.  While you don't want to sell the farm on this guy yet, it looks as though he will be the #1 WR option in Dallas from this point forward.  Start his weekly as a WR#1 until further notice.

Last chance to land Percy Harvin!  He gets better each week, is playing through injury, is not afraid to go over the middle, and has been even getting looks on deep routes from Lord Favre.  Score him now if you can because by the end of 2009 he will be nearly impossible to acquire in Dynasty Leagues.  By the end of 2010, he will be a Top-15 fantasy WR with Top-10 upside.

Happy Birthday Roddy White (11-2-2009).  After a relatively slow start to the season, HC Mike Smith gave Matty Ryan and Roddy White the go ahead to open it up some on the deep ball.  In the last 4 weeks he has found the end zone 5 times for a total of 6 scores on the season.  On pace for 1,200 yards and 13 TD's, he remains the top receiving option for Ryan and at 28 has a few years of extremely high production ahead of him.

Tight Ends

This one hurts - Emerging Beast Owen Daniels is out for the season with an ACL tear. We could see the versatile rookie James Casey get get some looks, but he is out at least one week while he recovers from knee surgery. Dynasty owners will want to keep tabs on his development. The real benefits from this injury are on the WR Corp. Kevin Walter was cast into the shadow this season, but should see way more passes his way now. WR3 Jacoby Jones should continue to emerge and WR1 Andre Johnson will get a small bump, especially in the redzone although also keep in mind he will see constant double teams without Daniels drawing coverage. If you own him in a shallow league, you will likely be able to replace him pretty easily. For Dynasty and deep league owners, it might be a little tougher to find a TE1, but it is worth exploring. For everyone that had him, they will undoubtedly miss the high end WR2 production they were receiving out of their TE slot.

Giants TE Kevin Boss finally had a solid fantasy game, catching 3 balls for 70 yards and a TD. He is really an ideal TE2, but he does have upside in his game. If Eli and the rest of the G-Men offense can start clicking, expect Boss to be integrated more frequently. He is a big target and he can run after the catch. If you are looking for a backup TE to roster for the rest of this season or you are a Dynasty owner with an eye on next year, he is worth a roster spot.

Brent Celek continues to breakout for the Eagles. In just his third season out of Cincinnati, Celek already has 37 catches for 447 yards and 3 TDs through 7 games. McNabb loves to involve his TE in the passing attack and Celek is clearly up to the task. If you are looking for your future TE, he is a guy you may be able to grab for slightly below his current market value. He is for real and will continue to blossom in Philly.
