Braylon Edwards Fantasy Profile
|
|
Height: 6-3 Weight: 215 Age: 27 |
Braylon Edwards was once well on his way to establishing himself as a perennial beast. Coming out of college, Edwards had all of the measurables and skills to be a top flight wideout. His rookie season (2005) he played in 10 games posting respectable numbers providing a glimpse of his potential. He has not missed a game since he stepped on the field as a starter. In 2007 Braylon Edwards was the leading receiver on the highly productive Browns squad where he posted 80 receptions for 1,289 yards and 16 Touchdowns. His 2008 season was plagued by the drops (135 targets for 55 receptions) along with questions whether his 2007 perfomance was a fluke.
2010 Season:
Braylon Edwards was traded from one brutal QB situation to another in 2009, but at least Mark Sanchez does represent some upside in the passing game as he matures. 2009 was Braylon's second worst statistical season of his career. He still has a desirable skill set, but questionable hands and work ethic have even the most loyal dynasty owners luke warm to his prospects at the moment. Can he turn his career around? To a certain extent yes, but anyone expecting another season like 2007 is overly optimistic. If Edwards remains with the Jets, he will be the WR1 on a run first team with a very strong defense and a young QB. Expect around 55 - 65 catches, 700 - 900 yards and 6 TD's. At just 27 years old, there is upside with him, but he should no longer be considered a Top 25 option at the position.
Dynasty Outlook:
There is no doubt that Braylon Edwards is talented, but his play the past two seasons have exposed holes in his fantasy game. His is not a strong option in PPR leagues, but he can still get deep and remains a dangerous redzone target. His value is extremely low at the moment and his is a worthwhile low risk gamble in deep leagues. If you keep your expectations in check, he might even surprise you. He is not likely to get a long term contract from the Jets this offseason, but it would be in his best interest to develop a rapport with franchise QB Mark Sanchez. Entering his prime, though, Braylon Edwards' fantasy relevance really depends on him more than his situation.
