Inventory Check - NFC Midseason 2010
Throughout the entire year at BeastOrBust.com, we are constantly taking a look at unearthing Dynasty prospects and potential fantasy contributors in our Emerging Dynasty Prospects and Dynasty Digging columns. In this Inventory Check feature, we are going to take a look at each NFC team and examine their roster's long term Dynasty value. Since it is never to early to be thinking about 2011, we are taking a close look at each situation. From existing Beasts to developing prospects, it's time to take Inventory.![]() |
New York Giants |
The New York Football Giants have developed into one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFC. Led by a group of young, talented wideouts and the steady Eli Manning, the G-Men can put up points in a hurry. With a youthful corp., this should remain a potent fantasy situation for the next 3-5 seasons. Running back could be an issue as soon as 2011, and we wouldn't be surprised to see them draft one early this coming April.
QB - Eli Manning: Should be a very strong QB2 for the next 5 seasons in a high powered offense.
RB - Ahmad Bradshaw: Has become the Giants RB1, but injuries will be a concern with a large workload. Solid RB3 value.
RB - Brandon Jacobs: Slight fantasy resurgence in a limited role, he is no more than FLEX material at this point. Move him if you can.
WR - Hakeem Nicks: He is clearly the WR1 on this team and one of the best fantasy receivers in football. Elite.
WR - Steve Smith: Dependable fantasy WR3, with an extra bump in PPR leagues. Solid career ahead.
WR - Mario Manningham: Could be a starter on most NFL teams, WR3 upside in the right role.
WR - Ramses Barden: Project out of Cal Poly, he is one to stash in Dynasty leagues. Redzone threat.
WR - Victor Cruz: Preseason darling could re-emerge in 2011 as a prospect. Dynasty flier.
TE - Kevin Boss: Has not taken the next step, will be no more than a TE2 for the remainder of his career. Unappealing option.
TE - Travis Beckum: More of a pass catching threat than Boss, but only a stash in the deepest of leagues.
![]() |
Philadelphia Eagles |
A QB controversy in Philly is major news, because Andy Reid's offense is lucrative fantasy business. It looks like Vick and Kolb could both be starters next season, with one of them wearing a different uniform. The rest of the Eagles offense is young and talented, making Kolb the natural fit to grow with the team. This will be a top notch offense for years to come.
QB - Mike Vick: Playing at a QB1 level right now, could settle in as a solid option for the next 2-4 years.
QB - Kevin Kolb: Has the ability to be a QB2 in the near future, be it with the Eagles or on another team.
QB - Mike Kafka: Solid developmental prospect that could emerge as Eagles future in 3-4 years. Deep stash.
RB - LeSean McCoy: Borderline RB1, a healthy McCoy should continue to produce above average fantasy numbers.
RB - Jerome Harrison: Nothing more than a Shady handcuff.
WR - DeSean Jackson: Elite numbers, but game to game he is inconsistent. Still has upside.
WR - Jeremy Maclin: Consistent threat that could be a high upside WR2.
WR - Riley Cooper: Size / speed combination could find a role in this offense in 2011. Redzone threat.
TE - Brent Celek: Elite talent having an up and down year. Buy him.
![]() |
Washington Redskins |
Mike Shananan took over and he usually brings with him instant offense. Too bad he didn't bring much talent with him to Washington. They are old at the skill fantasy positions and the offense does not have much in the way of Dynasty value. Look for them to draft new wideouts, running backs and a quarterback in the upcoming draft. This team could look completely different in 3 years.
QB - Donovan McNabb: Only a QB2 at this point, could give 2-3 more years of solid production.
RB - Ryan Torain: Nothing flashy or exciting, he is not a long term solution.
RB - Keiland Williams: Looks strong in limited role, could emerge as a fantasy option in 2011.
WR - Santana Moss: Enjoying a more consistent season, but he is almost done.
WR - Anthony Armstrong: Has a chance to establish himself as a FLEX play, but upside is limited at 27 years old.
WR - Malcom Kelly: Deep stash in hopes that the light turns on, Kelly cannot seem to stay healthy or establish himself.
TE - Chris Cooley: Strong rapport with McNabb has him back as a TE1 option.
TE - Fred Davis: Could be a beast in a couple seasons. Top 7 upside.

Dallas Cowboys |
The Cowboys running has gone downhill, but their passing game is still top notch. Austin is already a true WR1 and Dez Bryant is on his way as well. Romo may not have what it takes to win a Superbowl, but he can be your fantasy QB1 without question. Look for Marion Barber to get the axe and leave more carries for Felix Jones and the emergence of Tashard Choice.
QB - Tony Romo: Elite level production, injury will slow down his value a bit but he should be a QB1 for the next 2-4 years.
QB - Stephen McGee: Dynasty prospect to stash away for the long haul, has what it takes to develop into a starter.
RB - Felix Jones: Too small and brittle to take on a full workload, Jones upside is no higher than an RB2. Will always be in a timeshare,
RB - Marion Barber: Has fallen off a cliff in the past few seasons, not nearly the threat that he once was. He may have a resurgence next season in a new uniform, but Dynasty upside is limited.
RB - Tashard Choice: The most complete RB on the roster, he should be in line for more work in 2011. Could be a very dependable RB3 if he can prove to be a between the tackles horse.
WR - Miles Austin: He is a legit playmaking WR1 and should continue to be for the next few seasons as he enters his prime. Not as much wear and tear as some of the other Beasts.
WR - Dez Bryant: Emerging prospect that could be a fantasy factor in all leagues by 2011. Skillset of a WR1 could make for an explosive combination with Austin.
WR - Kevin Ogletree: Has some upside and could be a productive WR3 alongside Bryant and Austin in the near future. Prospect.
WR - Roy Williams: Do not be fooled. He may have a few big games, but he is not a long term regular. Bench material at best.
TE - Jason Witten: Beastly TE has slow down, but still a capable starter. Will produce 2-3 more TE1 seasons before slipping.

Atlanta Falcons |
Matty Ice is the franchise and he is starting to hit his stride. The offense is not a powerhouse, but they can put up points in a hurry when things are clicking. They are going to need a wave of youth if they want to stay competitive, as they have not developed an effective receiver since Roddy White. The running game has taken a backseat and that trend should continue for as long as Ryan is at the helm.
QB - Matt Ryan: Coming into his own this season, should be a Beast for the next 5-7 seasons.
RB - Michael Turner: Could have a few more seasons of productive RB2 value, but he is a prime dump candidate.
RB - Jason Snelling: Showed promise in spot duty, must have handcuff. Could be FLEX play in 2011.
RB - Jerious Norwood: Once an explosive prospect, he is too injury prone to make any kind of impact.
WR - Roddy White: Beast in the truest sense of the word, with 2-4 years of top line production in him.
WR - Harry Douglas: Speedy prospect has not developed into a threat. 2011 is a big year for his future value.
WR - Kerry Meier: Possession type receiver could have an impact in 2011. Deep stash with upside.
TE - Tony Gonzalez: So productive for so long, but 2011 could be it.

New Orleans Saints |
The Super Bowl champs might have a hangover, both in real and fantasy football. Despite the turnover increase, Drew Brees is still an elite option. The problem is two fold...injuries to the backfield and spreading the ball around in the passing game. Pierre Thomas is not a feature back and neither is Reggie Bush, but is Chris Ivory? Doubtful, but we'll find out soon enough. Marques Colston is the other startable wideout and even he can drop some goose eggs every now and then. Still a powerhouse offense, but they will continue to spread the wealth.
QB - Drew Brees: Expect Beast production for another 3-5 seasons.
QB - Chase Daniel: Likely a long term back-up, but stash him if you have the space because he is learning from Sean Payton and Brees.
RB - Pierre Thomas: Cannot carry the full load in an offense, but has been very productive when he's on the field. RB2 value in 2011.
RB - Reggie Bush: He is an upside FLEX play, look for that to continue another 2-4 seasons as long as he stays healthy.
RB - Chris Ivory: Undrafted rookie has been impressive when called upon, but has limited upside. He is a 2011 handcuff and potential RB3 if injuries hit the backfield.
WR - Marques Colston: Not an elite receiver, but a solid WR2. In this offense, he has at least 2-3 seasons of startable numbers in him.
WR - Robert Meachem: Never going to make good on WR1 upside, he is a deep threat and not much more unless Colston leaves town. WR4 value in 2011.
WR - Lance Moore: A bye week player, Lance Moore only has value if there is an injury or until another young WR emerges (likely after the 2011 Draft).
TE - Jeremy Shockey: Still a warrior, but the sun is setting on his fantasy value.
TE - Jimmy Graham: Former basketball player with huge upside, will be a big time sleeper in the summer of 2011. Grab him now.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers |
Tampa Bay is an emerging offense stacked with two high upside wideouts, a franchise QB with one of the highest fantasy upsides in the league and a potential battering ram of a running back. In two or three years, this offense could be one of the most explosive in the NFL.
QB - Josh Freeman: Could be a QB1 as soon as 2011. A future Beast that could compete for a Top 3 spot on our Dynasty list in a couple years.
QB - Josh Johnson: One of the highest upside back-ups in football, he could be a starter somewhere in 2011. Acquire him now and stay patient.
RB - Cadillac Williams: The starter in name only, Cadillac's Kelly Blue Book value is pretty low and it's not going to get any better.
RB - Legarrette Blount: Power back in every sense of the word, could have RB3 value in 2011. TD machine.
RB - Kareem Huggins: Torn ACL ruined is 2010 season. If he can bounce back strong, he could enter in a timeshare.
WR - Mike Williams: Big time upside as Freeman's favorite target, could be a solid WR2/3 by 2011.
WR - Arrelious Benn: Not consistent yet, but upside is right there with Williams. FLEX play in 2011, but will grow to be more than that.
TE - Kellen Winslow: Solid, but uninspiring option that seems to have some kind of knee surgery every offseason. TE2 for 2-3 more seasons, health permitting.

Carolina Panthers |
What happened here? Once a run first team, the wheels have completely fallen off the entire offense. Matt Moore is a bandaid approach, but at least he can move the sticks. The team is in a transition, mixed with veterans and inexperienced prospects. There is potential here, but they are situation to avoid until they figure it out. Could be a while.
QB - Matt Moore: He may not be the answer in Carolina, but Clausen is not ready. Game manager type value if he starts 2011 under center.
QB - Jimmy Clausen: Looked brutal and not ready for primetime, but the game action will help. Hold onto him, but real value will be in 2012 and beyond.
RB - DeAngelo Williams: Will he be with the Panthers in 2011? If not, he could be an RB1. If he is, same RB2 value and Stewart limits his upside.
RB - Jonathan Stewart: See DeAngelo Williams.
RB - Mike Goodson: Change of pace back would have FLEX value if he was the RB2 in 2011. Keep a close eye on him.
WR - Steve Smith: A few more years of WR2 production, move him for top value if you can before 2011 starts.
WR - David Gettis: Size and speed to be a weapon, 2011 value tied to QB situation and Lafell's development.
WR - Brandon Lafell: Similar to Gettis with more upside, Lafell is also more drop prone. Could emerge as a FLEX play in 2011.
WR - Devin Thomas: Could he shake the Bust label with a new team? Probably not, but he is worth a spot on talent alone.
WR - Armanti Edwards: Not ready for game action making the transition to WR. Deep stash.
TE - Dante Rosario: Yes, they should be in the market for a pass catching TE.

Detroit Lions |
Another young offense, they are going to build around Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Jahvid Best. But they can't do it alone, they will need to develop a few other offensive options in order to compete. For fantasy purposes, though, as long as Stafford continues to develop, they'll be productive.
QB - Matt Stafford: Might take a few seasons to emerge as a Beast, but he has Top 5 upside. 2011 value is as a QB2.
RB - Jahvid Best: Exciting playmaker is a high upside RB2. Health will always be a question mark, keeping him from reaching true RB1 status.
RB - Kevin Smith: A solid player who fits in better as a compliment than a true handcuff. 2011 value is limited unless the Lions try to limit Best's touches.
WR - Calvin Johnson: The highest upside WR in football, Megatron needs to start putting up Beast numbers. Could be the top WR in 2011.
WR - Nate Burleson: Limited potential at this point, no more than bench fodder.
WR - Derrick Williams: He might start to get it and he has potential to be the 2nd WR in Detroit, but his value is all speculative in 2011.
TE - Brandon Pettigrew: An every down TE, Pettigrew has emerged as a solid pass catcher. Scheffler's presence holds him back, but he has TE2 value in 2011.
TE - Tony Scheffler: Not as good as Pettigrew, could be a TE3 if you dig that deep.

Chicago Bears |
Mike Martz' offensive philosophy has helped some, but they need a receiver to step up other than Johnny Knox, and that receiver is not on their roster at the moment. In need of a WR1, they would be wise to acquire one via free agency or trade rather than the draft. The unit as a whole is relatively young, but Cutler is going to need a go to receiver in order to reach his full potential.
QB - Jay Cutler: QB1 option, but not as consistent as some other Beasts. 4-6 more years of startable production.
RB - Matt Forte: He is a low end RB2 in the long term, but production by volume keeps him an option in 2011.
RB - Chester Taylor: Not a fantasy threat. Barely a handcuff.
WR - Johnny Knox: Deep threat that could develop into a WR2 with better route running. Upside pick.
WR - Devin Hester: He is what he is. FLEX play at best.
WR - Devin Aromashodu: He is what he is. Not fantasy relevant.
WR - Earl Bennett: Solid PPR threat that does not have the talent to break through the clutter. 2011 value is as a bench player.
TE - Greg Olsen: Underused with Mike Martz, he needs a change of scenery or firing. TE1 upside remains, buy low.

Minnesota Vikings |
Another team in transition, the Vikings need a QB of the future. Favre is on his way out and no one is sure Tarvaris can lead them to the promise land. Joe Webb is too raw to get a shot right now, but he could be a long term option. With the team in win-now mode, though, they may opt to trade for a big name or acquire one through free agency. The rest of the pieces are there for this to continue to be a Beastly offense.
QB - Brett Favre: Never count out a comeback, but this looks like it's it. Hopefully.
QB - Tarvaris Jackson: Could get a shot in 2011, has enough weapons to be serviceable.
QB - Joe Webb: The long term answer in Minnesota? Very raw prospect well worth a roster spot.
RB - Adrian Peterson: Only concern here is workload, when will it catch up to him? Think about moving him before it does.
RB - Toby Gerhart: Valuable handcuff that could be a FLEX play in 2011, to keep ADP fresh.
WR - Randy Moss: 1-2 years of WR1 production in the right scenario. More of a WR2.
WR - Percy Harvin: Playmaker is a fantasy WR2 with huge upside. Backfield touches are a plus.
WR - Sidney Rice: If he is healthy in 2011, he'll be a Beast. Top 5 upside.
TE - Visante Shiancoe: Not much more than a low-end TE2, but it is time to find a replacement.

Green Bay Packers |
Aaron Rodgers makes everyone around him better. The receivers on this team are nothing special outside of Jennings and the running game is vanilla, even with Ryan Grant. The offense is still high powered when all parties are healthy, but they could reach another level by adding a few key pieces. Look for more of the same in 2011 for this squad.
QB - Aaron Rodgers: The Biggest QB Beast of them all.
QB - Matt Flynn: Could start getting some back-up love in the mold of Kevin Kolb, Matt Schaub, etc. Roster him for potential.
RB - Ryan Grant: Should bounce back from injury in 2011 to be solid RB2, but days are limited as workhorse.
RB - Brandon Jackson: Exposed as nothing more than a handcuff.
RB - James Starks: The most exciting prospect on the Packers. If he can get healthy, he could be a long term option.
WR - Greg Jennings: Miscast as a true fantasy WR1, but high upside WR2 numbers for the next 3-5 years.
WR - James Jones: Not much upside in his game, more or less bench material.
WR - Jordy Nelson: More potential than Jones if he could get more time, could be a WR4 in 2011.
TE - Jermichael Finley: Beast when he's healthy, but knee has been a problem in the past. Longevity a question, skills are not.

San Francisco 49ers |
The pieces are there, it just seems like the team cannot put it all together. Is Alex Smith the QB of this team next year? Is Michael Crabtree a true WR1? Can Frank Gore hold up for another couple of seasons? So many questions, but they may answer a lot of them by solving the QB one first. Expect a new coaching staff in 2011 and probably a new QB. It's time to move on.
QB - Alex Smith: Some days he looks like the future, some days he looks like he got hit by a bus. QB2 in 2011 if he can keep his job.
QB - Troy Smith: Back-up caliber talent, but rosterable in QB heavy leagues.
QB - Nate Davis: The most talented signal caller on the 49ers has had his commitment and knowledge of the playbook questioned. QB3 value if he could win this job in 2011.
RB - Frank Gore: Ultra-productive back that is an asset in the passing game, Gore has a couple of elite years left. Time to sell is right now.
RB - Anthony Dixon: Could end up as a solid power back down the road. Upside in 2011 is as a handcuff.
WR - Michael Crabtree: Looking like more of a WR2 for the near future, but has the skills to emerge in a big way.
WR - Josh Morgan: Has not developed as some would have hoped, more of a bench/bye week option for 2011.
TE - Vernon Davis: Beast for the next 2-4 years.
![]() |
St. Louis Rams |
Priority 1 in the offseason: An elite WR for future Beast Sam Bradford to throw to. A franchise QB makes a big difference to a team turning things around and that is exactly what the Rams are doing. The growing pains will continue in 2011 and 2012, but the payoff could be huge.
QB - Sam Bradford: Emerging rapidly. QB2 option to start 2011, with upside for much more down the road.
RB - Steven Jackson: Workhorse will feel the affects of his touches sooner than most. Move him while he is still an RB1.
RB - Keith Toston: Kenneth Darby is not a long term prospect, but Toston could emerge as a solid handcuff in 2011.
WR - Donnie Avery: Torn ACL has his stock down, speed and elusiveness keep him on the radar if healthy.
WR - Mark Clayton: Was a FLEX option before season ending injury. Might have some comeback value in 2011, long term not so much.
WR - Mardy Gilyard: Playmaking rookie is struggling to adapt his game, but he will get it. 2011 sleeper option, long term WR2 upside.
WR - Laurent Robinson: Solid skillset, but cannot shake the injury bug. Worth a stash, but nothing more.
WR - Danny Amendola: PPR asset in a very deep league. Bench material.
WR - Danario Alexander: Exciting size and speed, troublesome knees. Injuries will hold him back, but upside makes him worth a spot.
TE - Michael Hoomanawanui: Big target could grow into a fantasy threat down the road. TE2 upside.
TE - Fendi Onobun: TE1 upside, but he remains very raw and a long shot to reach ceiling.

Seattle Seahawks |
Not sure even Pete Carroll knows what to make of the collection of players he has in Seattle. They do have a talented defense and some pieces on offense, but they have QB questions to answer first and foremost. Expect them to draft one this April. If Golden Tate develops and the running game can be serviceable, this could end up a solid situation in a couple years.
QB - Matt Hasselbeck: No more than a QB3 right now, Hass is on his way out after a productive fantasy career.
QB - Charlie Whitehurst: Is he the future? No one knows at this point, but he is worthy of a flier for 2011.
RB - Marshawn Lynch: Beast Mode's decline has been rapid, but he can still be a solid RB3 if he can fend off Forsett.
RB - Justin Forsett: Speedy playmaker that will never be trusted to carry the full load. Upside is RB3, just expect FLEX numbers.
RB - Leon Washington: Serviceable back-up RB. Keep him rostered in 2011, but don't expect much.
WR - Mike Williams: Out of football for 3 years, Big Mike Williams is back on the fantasy map. FLEX value in 2011, long term is a big question mark.
WR - Golden Tate: Has not had an impact yet, but expect that to change. WR2 upside long term, WR4 value for next season.
WR - Deon Butler: Upside is limited, but he can play. Nice bench prospect with WR5 upside.
TE - John Carlson: The Hawks have struggled to get him involved, he is a TE2 until they start using him more effectively.

Arizona Cardinals |
Could Matt Leinart have been any worse? Not sure, but that is what you get for rolling with a turnover prone QB1 and two rookies as backups. The team, other than QB, is ready to compete right now and once again become an appealing fantasy option. Max Hall may or may not be the solution, but they'll know by early in 2011 if he is or not. We just hope it isn't too late, for Larry Fitzgerald's sake.
QB - Derek Anderson: No long term upside, he is a back-up with a big arm who makes too many mistakes.
QB - Max Hall: Undrafted rookie, but don't let that fool you. Long term upside caps out at QB2 material, but he could be productive.
QB - John Skelton: Laser rocket armed prospect, he might be the best QB on the roster in the long term. If Hall falls, Skelton could get a shot in 2011.
RB - Chris 'Beanie' Wells: RB1 upside with ability to be a TD and yardage horse.
RB - Tim Hightower: Not a starting RB, but he does have long term value, it just may not be with the Cardinals though. 2011 value is as a FLEX play.
RB - Larod Stephens-Howling: Return guy that could be a productive third down back should they move Hightower. Upside limited.
WR - Larry Fitzgerald: The best receiver in the game has struggled because of QB play. Expect that to be sorted out by 2011, buy low now if you can.
WR - Steve Breaston: Could be in another uniform, WR4 value if he doesn't, WR3 if he lands in a better situation.
WR - Early Doucet: Again battling injuries, but he may be a better long term prospect than Breaston. WR4 value for the time being.
WR - Stephen Williams: 6'5" wideout with solid speed, Williams is a deep stash. Could emerge in 2011.
WR - Andre Roberts: Return specialist has struggled in all facets of the game as a rookie. Could develop into the Cardinals WR3 down the road. Stash and pray.
