Jahvid Beast - Week 2 Fantasy Recap
Quarterbacks

If nothing else, Mike Vick earned himself a shot at a starting role in 2011. With another NFL franchise. Vick once again looked quick and explosive, but let's all remember he did this damage against the Lions D. Andy Reid is wise to commit to Kevin Kolb, because he is the Eagles future and needs a fair crack at the job that he has earned. But Vick's play has put him on a shorter leash and it will be interesting to see how Kolb plays under the pressure this week. Kolb makes for a nice buy low right now.

Mark Sanchez looked awful in Week 1, but did a complete 180 this week. The Patriots defense is young and inexperienced, but Sanchez deserves a lot of credit for his performance. He threw for a career high 3 TD's while looking poised and confident. The Jets would be wise to continue to open up the playbook, get Sanchez moving in the pocket and take some changes downfield. He seems to come up big in pressure spots, a quality that certainly cannot be taught. Watch his development closely in the coming weeks, hopefully this performance will be a spring board.

Vince Young struggled bad this week and got the hook for Kerry Collins, who offers zero Dynasty value. What he does offer is a strong arm and the ability to move an offense vertically, but this is Vince Young's team and he'll be back under center this Sunday. VY has always been unreliable, but he has the talent to be a Top 20 option for the next few years. If his price drops in your league, make a move for him as a solid QB2/3.

Jason Campbell was supposed to have a new lease on life as the savior of the Raiders. The savior found himself on the bench this Sunday after two quarters of not being able to move the offense. To make matters worse, journeyman Bruce Gradkowski came in and got things going immediately. Campbell has never seemed to fully trust his stuff and take shots downfield when he needs to, but it may be now or never for him. If he gets another start, he needs to produce. If not, he might end up as a career back-up, which would be a waste of his talent.

Trent Edwards
was benched after this week's pathetic performance, as the Bills will turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 3 to give them a spark. Needless to say, Edwards is already is a career back-up. But then again, so is Fitzpatrick. The Bills are looking to have a top 3 pick in the 2011 Draft and will undoubtedly take a QB.

Matt Moore will also be taking a seat after a dreadful start to the season and Jimmy Clausen will take over under center. The entire Panthers offense has looked out of sync and they are in need of some life. Clausen has the arm and intangibles to be a Beast, but he's going to need a lot of on the job training. He will likely show flashes this season and also take his lumps, but he'll be a better Dynasty prospect for it.

Continuing the career back-up trend, Derek Anderson was brutal on Sunday. He could not hit receivers consistently and never got things going. Ken Whisenhunt stood behind his guy, but rookie Max Hall did enter the game late. He did not inspire much confidence, throwing a pick almost immediately, but this will be his job sooner rather than later. It is looking like a developmental year in the desert and they would be wise to find out what they have in Hall and / or fellow rookie John Skelton.

Running Backs
Jahvid Beast is electric with the ball in his hands, but right now he is absolutely carrying the Lions offense. Another 3 TD's for the rookie this week included a 75 yard catch. He is quickly developing into one of the top threats in fantasy this year on a potentially explosive Lions offense (when Stafford gets back under center). Best is still very much an injury risk, but as long as he can stay on the field, he is going to get his touches. He is an early pick for Offensive Rookie of the year.

If it was not for Jahvid Best lighting the league on fire this week, Lesean McCoy would be getting more love for his Week 2 performance. He also would of had the best week of any player if a penalty did not cost him another 35 yard touchdown. He still recorded 120 yards on only 16 carries and a 46 yard score. Andy Reid has a tough decision with Mike Vick and Kevin Kolb, but Shady McCoy is moving right into a Brian Westbrook type role that should continue to grow as the season goes on. He's going to have some up and down performances because the Eagles do not like to run the ball consistently, but he is definitely an early season riser.

Michael Turner has worked through nagging injuries since last season. He had 75 yards on 9 carries before he exiting with a groin injury. Back-up Jason Snelling filled in admirably with 124 yards rushing and 2 TD rushing, along with 5 catches, 57 yards and 1 TD receiving. Turner is expected to be okay, but watch the situation just in case it lingers. Atlanta has a good backup plan in it's running game with Snelling and he is a must have handcuff at this point.

Chris Johnson is human. Chris had 12 straight games of 100 rushing yards or more until Pittsburgh pinned him to 34 rushing yards. Although he had an 85 yard touchdown called back due to holding, which just shows you (if you weren't already convinced) that he is the premier gamebreaking talent in the NFL. His owners have to frustrated with this week's performance after being spoiled for just over a season...can you say buy low candidate?

Where has this Darren McFadden been the past two seasons? He has lived up to expectations two weeks in a row, this time against the lowly Rams. Run DMC set career highs with carries (30) and 145 rushing yards. He is becoming easier to trust as legit running back, we will see if this trend will continue next week. It is important to watch how Mike Bush is integrated into the offense when he is healthy, but McFadden will be given every opportunity to be the lead ball carrier.

Adrian Peterson continues to dominate. He stomped his way to 145 yards and a TD. With Favre looking old, the ADP Show is about to be on air a lot more in the very near future. He very well might finish the season as the number one fantasy RB this season, but any increased workload would make him a sell candidate this offseason.

Tim Hightower had a solid performance on Sunday with limited touches in an sputtering offense. This offseason, Beanie Wells got all of the hype and rightfully so, but Hightower is certainly no slouch. He has definitely earned his share of touches in the offense moving forward. He is not going to displace the more talented Beanie, but shows he has the ability to elude defenders and catch passes out of the backfield. It will be an interesting situation to monitor as Beanie should be healthy within the next week or two.

What is the deal with the Dallas running game? Marion Barber had 11 carries and 31 yards, Felix Jones had 7 carries and 7 yards this Sunday. And that is without even mentioning the best RB3 in the league, Tashard Choice. The Dallas RB committee looks mediocre at best right now, and the situation is not getting any better without an injury. The Felix Jones hype train from this offseason has come to a screeching halt, but he and Choice are both going to be solid buy low candidates later this season. It is very likely that Barber is not with the team next season.

Brandon Jacobs is not happy with his role in the Giants running game. Instead of running hard and dishing punishment like the younger, hungrier Jacobs, this new version fancies himself a Barry Sanders type. If he would stop dancing and running east to west, he might see his touches increase. Ahmad Bradshaw should continue to be a solid FLEX play with upside moving forward.

------------
Wide Receivers

Roddy White is off to a great start this season hauling in 20 catches through 2 games.  He is currently the most targeted WR in the NFL, and with this pace is on track to post Top-3 WR numbers in 2010.  We expected a bit more from Harry Douglas at this point.  A nice catch in traffic and a big hit ensures us he is healthy however.

Percy Harvin is still battling a hip injury and Brett Favre is a grandfather that is battling a diminishing skill set.  The passing situation in Minnesota is a disaster right now, and the preseason loss of Sidney Rice is proving to be a major problem for the Vikings offense.  Favre skipped the preseason and Harvin was absent with migraines - it is clearly showing between the two.  Harvin is a highly skilled gadget type player that has not yet learned how to line up as a true wideout.  Forced into a standard WR role, Harvin's tremendous upside is taking a giant hit, and our optimism for 2010 is fading fast.  Buy low in your Dynasty league.

While Jeremy Maclin scored his 2nd TD in 2 weeks, it was DeSean Jackson that landed the big stat line for the Eagles receivers in Week 2.  DJax had the matchup of the century here and we would have actually liked seeing him catch more than just 4 balls.  The Eagles steamrolled arguably the worst passing D in the league, and Vicks athleticism hid the Eagles offensive line woes.  Tougher sledding ahead for the Eagles as the QB controversy talks gain steam.

Quick...Three of the four starting Colts WR's got into the end zone on Sunday night vs. the Giants - which player was left TD-less?  That would be Pierre Garcon.  He has been a major disappointment so far in 2010 hauling in 4 catches through 2 games.  He had 2 targets last night and could be in the Colts doghouse because of dropped passes in Week 1.  Peyton did go to him on the first throw fo the game however.  Maybe he just isn't fully healthy yet.  He is a buy low candidate right now. Austin Collie, on the other hand, continues to impress and could be in line for big things in the future.

Despite losses in the first two weeks of the season, Miles Austin has picked up right where he left off in 2009, with two straight weeks, totaling 20 receptions for 288 yards and a TD.  Super consistent and a solid surrounding cast, Austin's early season production is making him look as an early season candidate to push for the leagues top WR in 2010 by seasons end.  The emergence of Dez Bryant will not slow him at least for 2010.  The Cowboys schedule gets much more difficult heading into November.

Randy Moss is getting old folks.  We are not saying he is a slouch, but a healthy Darelle Revis would have easily shut him down.  Moss was still held to 2 catches in a game the Pats were playing catchup. One of the catches was a ridiculous one handed TD, but if you have the opportunity to sell Randy to someone expecting Top 5 numbers for the next 3 years, do so immediately.

Louis Murphy
had a nice game the moment Jason Campbell was benched for Bruce Gradkowski.  Murphy has the skill set to serve as a legitimate #1 WR in Oakland, and Darrius Heyward-Bey has already almost matched his rookie season production and looks to be a decent receiving compliment to Murphy.  He has caught 10 balls already in 2010 and looks to emerge as a comfortable flex option as early as the next few weeks.

Demaryius Thomas had a very solid debut on Sunday, catching 8 passes for 97 yards and a TD.  He is going to emerge as a Beast and it could happen sooner rather than later. The Broncos passing game is rolling right now and should continue to improve with the rookies return and his big play potential.  Big plays are limiting factor in the Broncos passing game right now.

Tight Ends

Aaron Hernendez is third on the Patriots TE depth chart.  He is also the best TE on the roster.  He's a nice compliment in 2 TE sets that we will see plenty of from the Pats this year and moving forward.  His TE counterpart Rob Gronkowski is bigger and better TD threat, but the receptions and yardage numbers will come Hernendez way on a weekly basis.

Antonio Gates at age 30 looks as dominant as ever.  He scored 2 TD's this weekend, his third of the season.  It looks as though the loss of VJax will have no effect on his production and could potentially increase it.  He is easily SD's top receiving and end zone target.

The return of Santonio Holmes is going to give a bump to Dustin Keller's value, not to mention Mark Sanchez.  Keller is a great security blanket for Mark Sanchez and looks to be in a position to easily post career numbers this season.  His 100+ receiving yards and TD were a nice stat line after the Jets Week 1 offensive disaster.

Tony Moeaki
led the Chiefs in targets this week.  The Chiefs and the Matt Cassel passing attack is weak, so temper expectations for now, but Moeaki is worth an add in Dynasty leagues. He has battled through injury problems for a few years now, but when healthy he can be a reliable option.

Jermichael Finley is still very elite, but the Packers passing game has yet to drop some serious passing numbers in 2010.  Aaron Rodgers threw 29 attempts in Week 2 with WR James Jones leading the team in targets.  Finley and the Packers passing attack will steadily improve as the season progresses.
