Kevin Boss Fantasy Profile

Height: 6-6   Weight: 253   Age: 26
Born: 1/11/1984 Corvallis , OR
College: Western Oregon
Experience: 3rd season
High School: Philomath HS [OR]

Kevin Boss is emerging as one of the most reliable pass catching Tight End's in the NFL.  When the New York Giants drafted Boss in the 5th round (153rd overall) of the 2007 draft, they knew they had stolen a special talent from the rest of the league. In addition to his success in Football and Basketball at Western Oregon University, they were impressed by his academic achievements graduating with academic honors in physical education (major) and business (minor).   The Bossman earned his first Pro Bowl appearance in only his second season catching 33 passes for 384 yards and 6 TD's. Kevin Boss is not a run blocking TE although his proficiency to make clutch catches (especially in the end zone) has kept him on the field.

2010 Season:

Kevin Boss has improved his numbers in each of his three seasons in the league.  His receptions, yardage totals and yard per reception numbers each show a player that has become more involved in an offense because of his ability to perform rather than just neccessity.  While his TD total fell by 1 trip to the end zone from 2008 to 2009, the predominance of emerging WR talent on the Giants roster indicates Boss will remain an integral part of the Giants passing game.  It can be expected that Boss will improve on his career totals in 2010 and an established WR corps can only help his numbers.

Dynasty Outlook:

At this stage in his career, the name of the game for Boss is upside.  He is in a great situation in NY, where historically, TE's thrive in the offensive scheme.  He has shown an ability to play through injury and can make the big catch no matter the situation.  Eli has shown tremendous confidence in his abilities. Potential Beast Travis Beckum is waiting in the wings should Boss get injuried, but he is not in danger of losing opportunities to him (yet). He will likely never establish himself as elite at the position with the likes of Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates and Jason Witten, although the consistent improvement in all statistical categories is promising for dynasty owners.  His nose for the end zone is especially promising for Dynasty owners and should keep him in the high TE2, low TE1 category though his career.  Dynasty upside - 800 yards and 10 TD's.

Nature of the Beast: Week 11 Review
Week 11 was a big week for receivers, with 14 different players posting 100+ yard games. This number could increase when the Titans and Texans matchup up tonight on MNF.  We learned that Brett Favre will continue to teach us that he is superhuman.  Who would have thought this weeks two highest QB totals would come from a matchup between the Lions and the Browns?  Bruce Gradkowski had a better game in Week 11 than any other previous 2009 start of Jamarcus Russell. Oh yeah, Ricky Williams was the top RB performer.  As always, Fantasy Football surprises us every week.

Week 2: In or Out
Who's in? Bills QB Trent Edwards. He will be looking to get the Bills offense going and the no huddle could create problems for Tampa Bay's defense. His play should make T.O., Lee Evans and Fred Jackson solid starts against the Bucs on Sunday.

Week 1: In or Out
No one needs to tell you to start Larry Fitzgerald or Aaron Rodgers every week. It's a rule you learn as you play fantasy football, you don't bench your beasts. Doesn't matter what the matchup is, you play them. Sure, you'll get burnt occassionally, but the true beasts are going to lead you to the promise land more often than not.  But you might be tettering on a 2nd QB or a flex player or between two RB's for one spot. Each week, we'll take a look at some of the players that you might be thinking about starting or sitting in deeper leagues.

Observations from Giants Camp 2009
Giants Training Camp opened this week in Albany New York.  I had an opportunity to watch the morning and afternoon sessions live from the University of Albany campus.  While the opening days of training camp provide very little information into how fantasy players will perform in the regular season, there are plenty of trends that develop that can provide some insight how a team will plan to utilize their players this upcoming season.  I have continued to pay close attention Giants training camp this week.  Here are my observations:
