Matt Schaub Fantasy Profile
|
|
Height: 6-5 Weight: 240 Age: 28 |
Matthew Rutledge Schaub has one of the best names in professional football. Drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2004 (Round 3 - #90 Overall), not for his cool name, but his outstanding collegiate production at Virginia, where he set 22 school records that included: yards passing (7,502), TD's (56), completions (716), attempts (1,609), 300-yard games (8),200-yard games (20), and a completion percentage of (.670). A prototypical Height/Weight QB, Schaub spent his first three season in Atlanta struggling to find the field as the backup QB to Mike Vick. He found his opportunity to start following a 2006 trade to the Houston Texans. Since becoming the starter in Houston, he has yet to play more than 11 games in a season, however his time on the field has been hugely productive surpassing the 66% completion percentage both years. Schaub showed toughness in 2009, playing in all 16 games. He had a breakout statistical season with 4,700 yards passing and 29 TD's. Potential realized.
2010 Season:
The 2009 season is Schaub's ceiling, but there is no reason not to expect similar numbers in 2010 if he can remain healthy. That is always going to be the question and the risk with Schaub. If you have him on your roster, just make sure you have a solid QB2 to back him up. The talent is undeniable, as is the obvious upside. If WR Jacoby Jones continues to develop and TE Owen Daniels comes back healthy, Schaub could vie for the top QB spot this season.
Dynasty Outlook:
He will play the 2010 season at just 29 years old, and he has firmly entrenched himself as a Top 10 Dynasty QB. What keeps him out of the Top 5 is his longevity question marks due to injury. He is throwing to the best WR in the game and their careers should be closely intertwined. For the next 2 or 3 years, expect elite output from Schaub (and Andre Johnson). After that, though, the injuries could catch up with him. If you move him coming off of this season, you can get a huge bounty in return. Given his frustrating injury history, it should be something a savvy Dynasty owner considers. If you hold onto him, enjoy 3,800-4,200 yard, 25-30 TD seasons with good health.

2010 Rookie Quarterback Player Profiles
There are upwards of 10 NFL teams seeking out their future franchise QB. Many Dynasty league owners are doing the same. If you own an older Beast like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, you can afford to draft a youngster and sit him for a few seasons as he learns the ropes. The instant returns of Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Matt Stafford and to some extent Mark Sanchez has owners anxious for a young Dynasty cornerstone to call their own. This draft class, though quickly dismissed as pedestrian, is not without its long term potential. The patience of Dynasty owners is going to be tested because most of these QB's are not ready for NFL game action in 2010.
