Nature of the Beast - Week 12 Review
Quarterbacks

Josh Freeman is a work in progress, but has the potential to be a very good fantasy quarterback.  His skill set is similar to Warren Moon and he has shown already that he has the poise and maturity to be a leader.  He was giving Kellen Winslow an earful on the sidelines yesterday which is a great sign that he has already taken a leadership role for the Bucs.

Vince Young
beat Matt Leinart on the final play of regulation, again.  Young is starting to look like the Quarterback he was drafted to be.  He is now 5-0 as a starter this season and posted 387 passing yards yesterday capped by a game winning TD pass as part of a 99 yard drive to beat the Cardinals.

Matt Ryan has been ruled out for Week 13 with ligament damage in his foot.  Chris Redman did a decent job this weekend vs. a weak Bucs defense, but his upcoming opponent, the Eagles, will be a much more difficult test.  Downgrade all Falcons skill positions moving forward.  Redman's biggest body of NFL work came in 2007 where he played in 7 games and passed for just over 1,000 yards (154 ypg) and 10 TD's.  Nothing impressive, but his TD to Game ratio is not so bad.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is better than Trent Edwards.  He is not the answer however.  Terrell Owens has really reaped the benefit of the QB switch in Buffalo.

Jake Delhomme has a broken finger.  He is really bad and likely done.  Enter Matt Moore.  Matt Moore is not the solution in Carolina. The solution is still playing college football.

Jason Campbell is worthy of an offseason buy low acquisition.  If you can get him cheap enough or as a throw in as part of a larger deal, you may be happy with the result in 2010. He will likely have a new home and hopefully some decent offensive weapons and an offensive line to work with.

Phillip Rivers is really playing well right now.  The Chargers are also playing well as a unit and are going to put up major stat lines for the remainder of the 2009 fantasy season.

Try to buy low on Jay Culter this offseason. Trust us.

Brett Favre
is crazy.  He only has 3 INT's on the year - that is with over 350 throws to date on the season.  Totally impressive.

Dennis Dixon did a solid job filling in for Big Ben on Sunday Night against a tough Ravens D. He scrambled for a TD and also passed for one, but unfortunately his only turnover of the night set up the Ravens game-winning field goal. He showed off a strong downfield arm and excellent mobility in the pocket. It is likely that he will be back on the bench this week, but Dynasty owners will want to keep a close eye on him, especially if you own Roethlisberger.

Running Backs

The Falcons made a stupid decision to play Michael Turner this weekend, not fully healed from a high ankle sprain.  Their matchup vs. the Bucs this weekend was a favorable one for the Falcons and Jason Snelling showed last week that he was capable of carrying the load.  The Falcons have not yet disclosed a timeframe on Turners return.  Understandably, this is very frustrating for Turner owners.

Frank Gore owners are frustrated with his 2009 production.  No worries folks, the beastlyness will return, just maybe not in the 2009 fantasy season.  The 49ers are evolving into more of a spread based offense utilizing a 1 RB -1 TE set that will use the pass game to open up the run.  The 49ers have an excellent  emeging receiving corps and an improving Alex Smith being used the way he should be.  Once defenses start respecting the passing game, Frank Gore will be back.  We recently heard a comparison (from Pat Kirwan of NFL.com and Sirius NFL Radio) of how the Bills implemented Jim Kelly, a spread offense, and subsequent Thurman Thomas show,  to what the 49ers are evolving into.  Frank Gore can thrive in this offense better than when he has a fullback blocking for him.

Justin Forsett is establishing himself as the best RB on the Seahawks roster.  Look for him to keep the starting job for the remainder of 2009 and probably into 2010.  He is a very small player, but has shown to be quite elusive.

Chris Johnson is ridiculous and on pace for one of the best - if not the best - seasons by a RB.  The Titans are rolling right now and can be counted on each week to post solid fantasy numbers from all skill positions.

Jamaal Charles is showing some juice.  His 6.6 ypc average is impressive and he is showing above average receiving ability.  He still fumbles too often.

Adrian Peterson fumbles way too often, but he is a beast. The Vikings are not overly concerned, so you should not be either.

Wide Receivers

Chris Redman at QB hurts the value of Roddy White.  Their upcoming fantasy season opponents are also difficult matchups vs the Eagles, Saints, Jets and Buffalo. The one bright side here is that Redman looked White's way with 3 end zone looks late in the 4th quarter.  He clearly trust White, which could mean production by volume.

Since his Week 9 2 TD performance, Vincent Jackson has been quiet.  Be not afraid.  He is a beast and and the Chargers are rolling.  He will post another couple big games in 2009.

Dynasty Owners take note: You should make all attempts to acquire Kenny Britt and Percy Harvin this upcoming offseason. The price tag will be high (especially for Harvin), but both players have Top 10 potential down the road.

Pierre Garcon
is becoming a highly utilized weapon in the Colts offense.  He almost scored a 2nd TD this weekend as well.  He has 50+ yards per game and 2 TD's in the last 5 weeks.

DeSean Jackson could miss some time after suffering a concussion this weekend.

Tight Ends

The Redskins officially placed Chris Cooley on IR.  Fred Davis is filling in nicely catching 4 passes for 43 yards and a TD in Week 12.

Antonio Gates posted his 2nd best game of the 2009 season, with over 100 yards and two TDs.
