Nature of the Beast - Week 16 Review
QuarterbacksThe fantasy story of the week is Peyton Manning and the Colts starters being pulled in the third quarter of Sundays game versus the Jets. This decision no doubt was not a popular one with fantasy owners. Manning ended the day with 192 passing yards, no INT's and no TD's. One can only wonder what could have been...
Joe Flacco is struggling. He is a buy low candidate this offseason because his talent is very real. Also, look for the Ravens to upgrade at WR before the 2010 season begins.
Chad Henne has proven the last few weeks that he can handle throwing the ball 45+ times per game. If the Fins find a legitimate wideout this offseason, Henne has Top-10 QB potential.
Matt Moore in...Jake Delhomme out. With the money currently invested in Delhomme, the Panthers may not have an opportunity to go after another QB this offseason.
Carson Palmers fantasy season has been frustrating and disappointing for owners.
Josh Freeman has a lot of learning to do. His 9 TD to 25 Turnover ratio (16 INT - 10 Fumbles) should be your primary negotiation point in acquisition discussions.
Keith Null looks to have some potential. Week 17 is a big game for him, but it would be a huge shock if the Rams do not draft a QB with their first round pick.
Drew Stanton will not be an NFL starter. If he lands in a spread offense, he may have a chance to be a decent backup.
The Bills have a serious QB search on their hands. Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm are not the answer.
Matt Cassel is not getting it done. There is opportunity to land him very cheap this offseason. He still has potential to produce high QB2 numbers in a Chiefs offense that will spread it out in the future.
Running Backs
Beanie Wells is steadily improving. To date, his 7 TD's and 4.6 ypc average is promising for owners. 17-22 carries per game and he has Top-7 RB potential. Tim Hightower is still hanging around, but should not be too much of a threat to Beanie's workload.
Like we have been saying this season, Jerome Harrison equals production through volume. His productivity is intriguing and should be your primary selling point.
The 2009 season for Brandon Jacobs has been as healthy as any since he became the Giants starter in 2007. He hit career carry totals, too bad he also hit career a career low ypc average. His value is plummeting. HIs backfield mates value, however, is on the rise. Ahmad Bradshaw is an excellent FLEX acquisition this offseason.
Give Jonathan Stewart the ball 25+ times and he will get you over 100 yards and a TD. This does not bode well for DeAngelo Williams future in Carolina. He is a free agent after 2010 and it will be interesting to see if he makes it that far. Backup Tyrell Sutton is a player to keep your eye on.
Another good week for Jamaal Charles has his value at an all-time high. He has proven that he should be the main back in Kansas City, but durability questions will not go away until he plays a full season with regular touches in every game.
Wide Recievers
Randy Moss is nearing the end folks. His 3 TD's yesterday were nice. His yardage totals were not. 6 straight games without 100+ yards.
Santonio Holmes is consistent. His TD totals are low this season, but his yardage totals have been nice. With Hines Ward slowing down, Holmes is the go to guy. Buy him low with the lack of find the end zone as your buying point. Another Steeler to watch is rookie Mike Wallace, who continues to make big plays in this offense.
Michael Crabtree has been very consistent. While he hasn't busted out anything spectacular, the fact he stepped right in and has contributed consistent numbers each week is a sign of very big things to come. Also note that Josh Morgan's production has increased since Crabtree stepped in the field. He has 50 catches this year, most coming since the arrival of Crabs. He has the potential to catch 75-80 balls in 2010.
Keep an eye on Brian Hartline. The Dolphins definitely need a legit WR1, but Hartline has the ability to make plays and be a very solid WR2 for Miami.
The Giants Steve Smith continues his excellent season, with another 7 catches, 70 yards and a TD. He is third in the league in catches and should be a reliable fantasy weapon for years to come in this offense.
Dwayne Bowe has 22 targets since his return from suspension last week. DBowe's top 10 WR potential make him a nice buy low pickup this offseason. Big things were expected, but the breakout will have to wait until 2010 at this point.
Tight Ends
Jermichael Finley had another 3 catches for 80 yards yesterday. He is a beast waiting to happen. He moved into third place in our TE Dynasty rankings and has potential to move even higher next season. Wait until the offseason and then make your move for him, but be prepared to pay.
Vernon Davis caught a TD Sunday, giving him 12 on the season, along with 72 catches and 876 yards. He has slowed down a little, but he is very much for real.
After scoring a TD in each of his past three games, it finally seems that John Carlson is working his way back into the Seahawks offense. He has Top 5 potential in 2010, but he will need to show consistency.
The Saints David Thomas deserves watching as a possible TE2 next season. He is just 26 years old and playing behind the injury prone Jeremy Shockey. He is worth a flier in Dynasty leagues.
