Santonio Holmes Fantasy Profile
|
|
Height: 5-11 Weight: 192 Age: 25 |
Santonio Holmes seems to have a knack for the big game. Representing Ohio State University, his 2004 Fiesta Bowl performance (5 receptions - 124 yards - 1 TD) was all the Pittsburgh Steelers needed to see prior to drafting him as the 1st WR selected (#25 Overall) in the 2006 NFL draft. The pick paid off when he stepped up (in the abscence of injured Hines Ward) in the 2009 Superbowl recording a 9 reception 131 yard and 1 TD performance capped by the winning TD grab and earning MVP honors. Holmes is an excellent long term Dynasty prospect with a fantasy game that still has room to grow.
2010 Season:
Santonio Holmes finally took the next step in 2009. The playmaking wideout has had at least 800 yards in each of his first three NFL seasons, but no more than 924. After a stellar Super Bowl performance, Holmes broke out with 79 catches, 1,248 yards and 5 TD's this past season. In a disappointing situation for Dynasty owners, Holmes was traded to the Jets following numerous knucklehead incidents, one which included a missed drug test and league mandated 4 game suspension to start the 2010 campaign. The Jets are more of a run based team compared to the Steelers and QB Mark Sanchez still has plenty of learning to do before he will be allowed to chuck the ball around freely. All this combined, Holmes is looking at a 800 yard 6 TD season in 2010.
Dynasty Outlook:
At his best, Santonio Holmes is a game-breaking talent. He will never be a true elite WR because of his lack of redzone prowess, but he can go over the middle and make the impossible catch, seemingly with ease. He can certainly be a low-end WR1 / high-end WR2 in any league format. Holmes is a free agent at the end of 2010 and the likelihood if him remaining a Jet following this upcoming season is yet to be seen. Don't be too concerned with his 4 game suspension, he is talented enough that his Dynasty value doesn't exactly change. He can be bought now for a low price, however with his addition comes with an obvious element of risk. Fantasy consistency was previously missing in his repertoire and his issues in 2010 will derail any opportunity to situate himself as one of the big boys for at least another 1-2 seasons. His outlook is cloudy (i.e smokey) however his upside is still within the 70+ reception, 1,200 - 1,400 yards and 6-8 TD range.

Anquan Boldin
Anquan Boldin plays with a reckless abandon and fearlessness that makes him one of the best wide receiver talents in the NFL...and also makes him very much prone to injuries. Boldin has been a stud just about every one of his six seasons, just as long as he could keep himself on the field. Boldin will be 29 years old in October and his Dynasty value is on the fence. On one hand, you have a stud WR on a high-powered pass first offense. On the other, you have an injury prone player on a team where he isn't the WR1 and his QB is 38 years old.
