Steve Johnson Emerging Beast: Week 11 Recap
Week 11 provided one of the biggest point scoring weekends we have seen in a long time.  Many players had multi-touchdown games, and the exciting emergence of players like Steve Johnson and Mike Goodson are providing Dynasty owners with big time current production and a look into some legit long term talent.  It is a stressful time in the Dynasty world as Trade Deadlines approach.  Make sure to take this time to entirely evaluate your roster and make the appropriate moves for long term success.  In this article we outline some players that are making a Week 11 push for your Dynasty Respect.

Quarterbacks
:

Last chance to take a stab at acquiring Mark Sanchez before the Dynasty Trade Deadline.  Sanchez once again displayed late game heroics by driving down the field in the closing seconds to throw a TD pass to his new favorite weapon Santonio Holmes.  Since the Jets Week 7 bye, Sanchez hasn't thrown for less than 38 pass attempts and has surpassed the 300+ yard mark twice.  QB1 Fantasy production has followed.  The Jets have clearly loosened the reigns on Sanchez as it has become clear that he can handle more of the offense on his shoulders.  Through 10 games in 2010, Sanchez has nearly matched his entire 2009 passing yardage totals and has also surpassed TD totals.  The Jets have a difficult close to the Fantasy Football season against the Steelers and Bears, but this shouldn't prevent you from taking a stab at the emerging star.

We've discussed Ryan Fitzpatrick in this column multiple times this season....and for good reason.  The Bills won their 2nd game of the 2010 season with much of the victory attributed to the arm of Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The Bills are an intruiging squad, as they continue to play hard each week  - unlike some of the other bottom dwellers like the Bengals and 49ers.  While we do not see the gunslingging Ryan Fitzpatrick as the long term solution in Buffalo, he continues to diplay solid high end RB2 numbers with an occasional QB1 performance.  There is no question that the Bills will play out 2010 with the same intensity they have all season, and the likelihood of Fitzpatrick continuing to put up decent numbers is strong.  For contending teams looking to solidify their QB situation by adding some inexpensive depth with upside, Fitzpatrick is worth a look.  As we have said before, the Bills may look to draft their franchise QB next season and therefore Fitzpatrick is currently auditioning for a starting job somewhere and has all the incentive to post big numbers to close out 2010.

Running Backs:

You could argue no one needed a better performance this week than Cedric Benson. He got only his second 100+ rushing yard game of the season evidently a bad rush defense with a TD. It had been hard for owners who drafted him expecting top 15 RB numbers like he put up last year, since he has not been consistent at all this season, well you cannot blame him since Palmer now has Ocho and TO to throw to, so it has been tough for him to get his touches lately.  Benson’s schedule is not so inviting the rest of the season, 4 of the last 6 opponents have stingy run defenses, Steelers, Browns, Jets, and Ravens. Given Benson’s age (27) he is still young and can produce numbers, but not likely this season as he did against the Bills. Selling Benson high can be a good strategy, as he is still relatively young and coming off his best game of the season. His yards per carry have never been stellar, but he is half a yard down from his 4.2 last season. The rest of his schedule is full of tough matchups, so now is the chance to get value for him. On the flip side, if you can pick him up cheaply, Benson can certainly be of value FLEX option because of his bellcow workload.

With Jonathan Stewart (Beast in waiting) sidelined because of a concussion and DeAngelo Williams on IR, third string RB Mike Goodson got his second start and his second 100+ yard rushing games. Goodson is making himself a name in the fantasy world as potentially more than just a handcuff. Now the interesting thing here is that Stewart has a chance to play next week barring his injury, and with Goodson playing well as of now, you have to expect a sort of tandem back for the rest of the season. Not to mention Goodson rushed for 120 yards against the Ravens, so he has potential. Since the Panthers have almost no weapons on offense, they can lean on Goodson to carry the load the next few weeks if Stewart remains out, so If you had not done so already, Goodson is a great pickup/handcuff to have on your dynasty roster. He is only 23, the same as Stewart, and he has a decent schedule remaining. He can very well be a key asset to a championship run, given Stewart's health. Once J-Stew is healthy again and contributing, expect some type of timeshare between the two. Should DeAngelo Williams move on from Carolina next season, Goodson should have FLEX value, with more in PPR leagues.

You never know what the running back situation will be on a Mike Shanahan coached team. Keiland Williams, undrafted rookie out of LSU, has come out of nowhere to assume the starting role in Washington and he has looked productive doing it. After his 3 TD performance in the debacle in Philly last week, Williams was benched for Clinton Portis, who hurt himself again very early in the game, ending his Dynasty value once and for all. With Torain hurt as well, Keiland carried the load again, this time not scoring but producing numbers to give the Redskins the win in OT. Now we have praised Keiland throughout the season and he should be on some rosters as a handcuff. The rookie is quickly making a name for himself, and as long as he produces, he'll keep getting touches. Keiland also has been catching the ball out of the backfield well, making him more dangerous as a Dynasty running back prospect. He has solid potential and makes an excellent stash on your Dynasty roster. For the rest of this season, he can be used as an RB2 or FLEX if he remains the lead back.

The Bills are on a two game winning streak and the offense is reborn under the aforementioned Ryan Fitzpatrick. He has turned Steve Johnson into a star and put Fred Jackson back on the fantasy map. Jackson, who has taken the full load after CJ Spiller got hurt, has back-to-back 100+plus games and TD’s. And has be considered a RB2 and an every week start until he cools down, and Spiller returns. Unfortunately for Jackson he has tough matchups ahead, and like Benson you should sell him high if you are looking to rebuild for next year. Jackson is great for a team looking to win a championship, but fort the long run, the Bills RB will be Spiller in the future, and Jackson’s Dynasty value is as high as it will probably be. Sell him now if you are out of the running for your league’s championship.

Wide Receivers:

We already talked about the value of Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Well guess who has been the biggest beneficiary of continued hard work and effort in Buffalo?  A seventh round selection out of Kentucky named Steve Johnson.  Despite his beastliness which includes an onslaught of TD's (9 on the season), Stevie Johnson is producing big time on a squad in which he is seeing constant double teams.  Since the Bills Week 6 bye, Johnson has been somewhat inconsistent, fiip-flopping monster game and poor performance.  This can be expected based on his current situation, but makes him somewhat dangerous to trust from a week to week basis.  He clearly is a talented player, but should be sought after by contending teams with a level of reservation.  He is an excellent talent with a favorable remainder of the 2010 season facing the Browns, Dolphins and Patriots in Weeks 14-16.  A rebuilding can in certain situations get big time value based on this matchup schedule and would be smart to throw out some feelers.

Santonio Holmes has finally returned to prominence.  In three straight weeks, he has shown to be Mark Sanchez's favorite target evidenced by the fact he has looked his way in the big spot in each of the last few weeks.  He has 316 receiving yards and 3 TD's over this timeframe, and it can be expected that similar production will follow as the Jets make a push for a high seed in the 2010 NFL playoffs.  For those that were paitent with Holmes have plenty to be excited about.  Holmes is on a single year contract with the Jets and will play with extra motivation.  Heavy involvement in the Jets offense will leave owners with confidence that a contract with the Jets won't damage his value as most thought.

Marques Colston has been thought to have elite potential in fantasy circles since his explosion onto the scene in 2006. He has battled through some injuries and when healthy, he makes for a solid, but unreliable WR2 type. Drew Brees spreads the ball around to the open receiver and that leads to some huge games for Colston, but also his fair share of duds. In his past four games, though, Colston has scored 4 TD's (the only four he has scored all year), racking up 32 catches and 365 yards over that span. There is no reason to think he won't continue to be a solid option in the Saints pass heavy offense, but his fantasy value this season is at it's apex. If there is an owner in your league that is willing to pay an elite pricetag for Colston, make a move. Just make sure to get back a good haul in return.

Tight Ends:

A week after a almost costing his own team game (The defense did), Houston Texans TE, Joel Dreessen made up for his costly fumble by catching 4 times for 106 yards and a 43 yard TD late to cut the Jets lead down.  With Owen Daniels battling injuries, Dreessen is working to carve out a role for himself in the Texans offense.  Owen Daniels will likely not land the long term contract he has been looking for in Houston and could be shipped out of town this coming offseason with a continued emergence by Dreesseen.  Dreessen and Schaub are building good chemistry and his 100 receving yards against the Jets, should have him talked about in higher regard...if it wasn't for the Texans horrible Defense once again ruining the final act.  Dreessen’s value will drop if Daniels can return from injury at any point this season 2010, but this is still a big time questionmark.  For the time being Dreessen is a solid TE2, but could be in line for a larger role if he finishes strong in 2010 and subsequently takes over as the lead TE in 2011.  At 28 years old, his Dynasty value is legitimate for the next few seasons if the appropriate opportunity presents itself.

Brandon Pettigrew ranks in the top 10 in almost every TE statistical column this season. He is 2nd in receptions and 3rd in targets.  Considered one of the top all around TE's in the league, Pettigrew benefits from the double teams Megatron experiences on a weekly basis.  Pettigrew, a 2009 NFL 1st Round pick by the Lions, is finally getting into sync with Shaun Hill under center. Consistent reps with Matt Stafford under center will change the overall direction of this talented player in big ways.  Pettigrew has Top-7 Dynasty TE upside, but the revolving door at the Detroit QB positon is delaying the big time breakout from him that we all eventually expect.  Pettigrew can likely be acquired for a very low price or part of the bigger deal throw-in, and is well worth the long term investment.

The Saints drafted Jimmy Graham in the 3rd Round in April, drawn to his upside and tantalizing ball skills. A raw product with only one year of collegiate football under his belt, Graham has worked his way into the Saints plans with the injury to Jeremy Shockey. The injury does not appear serious, but Graham has produced in his absense, sharing reps with veteran David Thomas. Graham caught his first NFL TD last week and then racked up 5 catches for 72 yards on Sunday, showing impressive rapport with Drew Brees. His 2010 value remains closely tied to Shockey's health, but it is clear Graham is the future in New Orleans. His Dynasty upside is enormous and he could be a Top 10 Dynasty TE as soon as next summer. Graham makes a great throw-in acquisition if you are talking trade at the Deadline, and the payoff could be much sooner than anticipated.
