Week 14 Preview: Playoff Time
It only took 13 weeks but it seems Chris Johnson is back...congratulations to owners who stuck with him through the agonizing 3 months. On the other hand sorry for Matt Forte owners and Bears fans everywhere after losing their starting QB and BEAST RB, it now looks like the Bears will be fighting really hard just to make the playoffs. The Packers are still undefeated and Aaron Rodgers shows no sign of letting up. There is a lot more drama going on this week in the NFL so lets go and take a deeper look into each matchup.
Texans:
Who needs Schaub or Leinart? TJ Yates showed he is capable of holding down the QB spot for now. With Arian Foster still running very well will see a lot of touches with the health of Andre Johnson in question again. They are facing the Bengals who have a better run defense than their pass, so they might force Yates to throw the ball a lot more this week. Will be interesting to see how he responds.
Bengals:
Facing a tough Houston defense, only A.J. Green looks like a viable option outside of RB Cedric Benson. Green is a WR2 and Benson is a RB2 for this matchup despite watching the Texans limit Michael Turner to an awful game last week.
Vikings:
Yes Christian Ponder went off last week against a lowly Denver pass defense, but now faces a Lions team who is in need of a win and who is a lot tougher on defense than Denver. AP might return but if not Toby Gerhart is a RB2 and Percy Harvin is a WR1/2.
Lions:
The Lions have a good matchup on paper, but they have been struggling. Who knows if Kevin Smith will play this week leaving the backfield in question, so just ride on Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and Brandon Pettigrew.
Patriots:
The Gronk! plain and simple. Facing the Redskins this week any Patriot is a viable option, but take your chances on Brady's favorites as always Wes Welker and Gronk. Deion Branch is a WR2/3 this week and BJGE is a RB3 this week due to the fact he did not touch the ball at all in the 2nd half last week.
Redskins:
Look for plenty of Roy Helu through the air and on the ground. The Patriots have the worst defense in the league when it comes to yardage, so it could be a big game for Helu. Do not bother with any other Redskin outside of Santana Moss who is a WR2 this week.
Chiefs:
Dwayne Bowe might be stuck on Revis island this week, so avoid all Chiefs unless you have to play them.
Jets:
Shonn Green went off like we said last week and has a chance to duplicate that this week facing a weak run defense in the Chiefs. He is a RB2 this week. For some reason the Chiefs have been good on defending WR's better than TE's this year so Dustin Keller is a viable option this week too.
Saints:
It is hard to not start any Saint ever, so why would you stop this week?
Titans:
Chris Johnson seems to be back and facing a vulnerable Saints run defense could help him out even more this week. Clearcut RB1 this week. WR Damian Williams still gets those red zone targets from Matt Hasselback, he is a WR3/Flex play this week.
Colts:
Yes, Dan Orlovsky and Pierre Garcon went off last week in garbage time against the Patriots, but facing the Ravens this week avoid all of them.
Ravens:
Ray Rice is a BEAST and has been getting the ball fed to him 20+ times in the past 3 games. Watch for Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin to get back on track as well. You could start TE Ed Dickson as well if you needed, but stick to Flacco's main targets for now.
Eagles:
Should be getting Mike Vick and possibly Jeremy Maclin back, which is good news against a Miami team who is not so good in defending the pass at all. They are both good options this week along with LeSean McCoy. Avoid DJAX since nobody knows what his role is anymore.
Dolphins:
Reggie Bush is facing a defense giving up 4.7 YPC, so he is a RB1 this week given his stellar play of late. Matt Moore has been playing well lately too and developing a nice rappaport with Brandon Marshall, who should see a nice amount of targets this week against a weak Philly pass defense. WR2 this week for Marshall.
Falcons:
Start any Falcon this week especially Michael Turner who ran all over Carolina earlier this year for 139 yards and 2 TD's. Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez are all good options headed into this matchup.
Panthers:
Cam Newton is a QB1 and been playing like a BEAST through his rookie season. He is taking the TD's away from his RB's so steer away from the duo of Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams unless you have to. Other than that only Steve Smith is a good option. WR1 for this matchup.
Buccaneers:
Facing the Jags and having their QB back this week should allow Legarrette Blount to run well this week, he is a RB2. Mike Williams and Kellen Winslow are both solid options, as well as Josh Freeman if he does in fact start this week.
Jaguars:
MJD should run all over the Bucs terrrible run defense this week, but as with most weeks no other Jaguar is worth starting.
49ers:
Michael Crabtree has been coming along the past few weeks, plus he totaled 120 receiving yards last meeting with the Cardinals. He's a WR2 for this matchup and with that Frank Gore's production has been slowing down of late due to the bloom in the passing game.
Cardinals:
Larry Fitzgerald is the only player you should start. Beanie Wells is not 100% still and facing a 49er defense who barely allows over 60 yards per game!
Bears:
It's rough for the Bears right now, the only player worth playing this week against Denver is Johnny Knox. In two games with QB Caleb Hanie Knox has 18 targets. WR2 for this week. Marion Barber III is a deep league play if you have to.
Broncos:
Tim Tebow wins, but Willis McGahee makes fantasy owners happy. He will get a lot of carries despite a tougher matchup this week but remains a RB2.
Raiders:
Rebound game for Michael Bush facing the Packers who do give up a league worst 6.3 yards per play. Carson Palmer might be forced to throw the ball early and often. WR Darrius Heyward-Bey is a WR2/3 option this week with every other Raider receiver injured.
Packers:
All Packers are a go! Something to look at is rookie RB Brandon Saine, who has been worked into the potent offense last week and gets high praise from Rodgers. Do not start him unless desperate, but Saine will pose some value down the road if he continues to get touches.
Bills:
C.J. Spiller had his best game last week with over 100 yards and a TD. Even with the Bills recent struggles Spiller is a RB3 this week facing the Chargers. Fitzpatrick has been throwing the ball over 40 times the last few weeks, so there is room for success with a Charger defense allowing almost 8 yards a play this season.
Chargers:
Ryan Mathews has looked sharp of late, making him a high upside play despite his propensity to get dinged up. Philip Rivers and Malcom Floyd got back on track last week, and a matchup with the Bills makes them QB1 and WR3's respectively. Gates and Jackson are #1 options as well.
Giants:
Eli and Victor Cruz are #1 options and are playing very well so far. Of course you cannot forget about Hakeem Nicks, who could burn the Cowboys struggling secondary. Eli has some real weapons to throw to now and with Bradshaw back at RB and TE Ballard playing really well it is hard to not start any Giant lately despite their record.
Cowboys:
Facing the Giants, so anything can happen on Sunday night. TE Jason Witten always plays well against the Giants, he is a TE1. As for Dez Bryant and Demarco Murray, they are both solid #2 options at their postion. Laurent Robinson is no more than a flex option given his injury this week and the return of Miles Austin.
Rams:
Only look at Steven Jackson this week. Only a RB2 though facing a tough Seattle run defense.
Seahawks:
Beast mode Marshawn Lynch is a RB1 and playing like a monster of late. He is a must play and Golden Tate should be given some thought with Sidney Rice out now, but only as a last option. Lynch should be the only play this week.
