Week 5 Reactions: Who Wants Some Tebow?
The Broncos fans have since Week 1 and John Fox finally gave in on Sunday. After pedestrian first half by Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow relieved him and ended up sparking a second half comeback that fell just short. Now, he'll get his shot to show the Broncos front office that he has what it takes to be their franchise QB. While the time for Tebow is all the talk in the fantasy world, there were a number of other performances worth discussing from this past weekend. From rookie breakouts like Doug Baldwin to Peyton replacement Curtis Painter, let's check out some Week 5 reactions. Kyle Orton was 6 for 14 for 34 yards and an INT in the first half against the Chargers on Sunday. That prompted John Fox to bench him for third string QB Tim Tebow, who responded by rallying the Broncos to within a hail mary pass of a victory. Yes, they lost, but Tebow brought much needed energy. His accuracy, footwork and throwing motion need serious work, but his running ability make him a legit fantasy asset. More to come on Tebow's Dynasty value.
The Chiefs / Colts tilt featured a QB battle of unexpected proportions. Curtis Painter continued to find his favorite target Pierre Garcon, on his way to 277 yards and 2 TD's. Not to be outdone, Matt Cassel threw for 257 yards and 4 TD's (two each to Dwayne Bowe and Steve Breaston). Both QB's have enough weapons to be decent QB2 options, and while Curtis Painter is not likely going to be the heir apparent to Peyton Manning, he could be playing himself into a future as a reliable back-up.
Ben Roethlisberger finally got on track last week, throwing 5 TD's with a broken foot. He should continue to ride the line between QB1 and QB2 this season.
Josh Freeman and Mike Williams are not living up to expectations thus far. It's a long season, but they need some of that 2010 magic ASAP.
Jackie Battle is a 28 year old veteran with 57 career carries coming into last Sunday. Then he broke out with 119 yards on 19 carries, along with 2 catches for 21 yards. He doesn't have much of a Dynasty future, but could end up a solid inside running threat for the remainder of the season.
Arian Foster is back and running like a legit RB1. Just make sure you back him up with Ben Tate, who is just as talented.
Frank Gore has revived his value. He should be a borderline RB1 for the rest of the year. Dynasty owners with Gore and without his running mate Kendall Hunter, should fix that one way or the other. He is the future in San Fran.
Marshawn Lynch rushed for 98 yards on 12 carries and a TD, plus 4 catches for 33 yards. If only for one Sunday, Beast Mode was back. Just don't expect it to continue.
Rookie Doug Baldwin, undrafted out of Stanford, is making a big impact with the Seahawks. He's a definite speculative add in Dynasty leagues, as the team seems high on him. Expect up and down production, but he has a future in the slot.
AJ Green continues to flash elite upside, week in and week out. Andy Dalton has proven to be a solid QB option as a rookie and the two are forming a lucrative rapport.
Last week, we suggested you sell high on Darrius Heyward-Bey. If you couldn't find a buyer, you just might after a second straight solid performance. He has the skillset, always has, but he's just not a consistent enough threat to depend on. A few more of these performances, though, and he might start making more believers.
This just in: Jacoby Jones is never going to break out.
Jimmy Graham beasted once again. Your window to buy into the hype is closed, because there is pretty much no way to pry him from an owner without massively overpaying. He might be one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL.
Jermaine Gresham only caught 5 passes for 21 yards, but one did go for a TD. He's continue to be a TE2 this year, but has Top 10 upside. He makes for a nice Dynasty buy low.
2010 breakout Marcedes Lewis had 8 catches for 87
