Week 7 Reactions: Nagging Injuries
Week 7 brought the pain with numerous injuries, with varying degrees of severity. Most seemed to be at the running back position, so it's definitely important to keep an eye on the waiver wire for a potential bye week fill-in. It's also almost midseason and trade deadlines are approaching in the next month, so it's time to start looking at Dynasty buy lows whether you are competing or not. Oh, and did you hear that fantasy savior Tim Tebow led an impressive comeback in the final minutes of the 2nd half on Sunday? All that and more in this week's Reactions. The story everyone was talking about Sunday...how awful Tim Tebow looked. Then, in the last 5 minutes of the game, how he led an improbable comeback against a winless Dolphins team. Check out our Beast vs. Bust on Tebow for more details, but as long as he keeps playing, he's going to have the chance to put up big fantasy points. It might not be pretty, but points are points.
Sam Bradford missed this week's game with his high ankle sprain. Perfect opportunity to buy low in a Dynasty league. He'll turn it around, be patient.
Philip Rivers has not looked like his Beastly self this season. In any game, not even for a quarter. It's a situation to monitor, but for now consider him a buy low.
Drew Brees was masterful on Sunday night, as he continues to spread the ball all over the place. Jimmy Graham still got his, as did Marques Colston. Graham is playing like a WR1 right now, while Colston should remain a solid WR2 for the rest of the year. If you are looking to sell though, Colston is a candidate, as he continues to battle nagging injuries.
Carson Palmer returned to game action after sitting out the first 6 weeks of the season, so it was no surprise he's a little rusty. He has a grace period of a few more weeks and is in a situation where he should be able to be a solid QB2.
Darren McFadden was forced from Sunday's game in the first quarter with a mid-foot sprain. Mike Bush and Taiwan Jones stepped in with solid efforts. Bush is one of the best back-up RB's in the league and Taiwan has the explosiveness to be a legit 3rd down threat. It doesn't sound serious, but it's a reality check for DMC owners that were enjoying his Beastly season...back him up with at least Bush and if you have the space Jones as well.
Willis McGahee was having a solid season as a surprise RB3 value, but he hurt his hand Sunday and is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. Knowshon Moreno, relegated to 3rd down duties will step into a lead back role and have an opportunity to show Denver that he can handle the full load. Keep an eye on Lance Ball, though, who is a tougher inside runner than Moreno. He could pick up touches if Knowshon faulters.
Workman Earnest Graham tore his Achilles on Sunday, putting a damper on his fantasy resurgence. His Dynasty value was limited by his age and lack of upside, but he had looked solid filling in for Legarrette Blount. Kregg Lumpkin stepped up as the only other RB on their roster, and he might have some value as a Dynasty stash, but only in very deep leagues as Blount is expected back after their upcoming bye.
Beanie Wells was knocked out Sunday with a knee injury. Much like McFadden, when someone with Beanie's injury history leaves a game, you hold your breath. Looks like the injury was not serious and he should be back in a few weeks. He does not have a clear cut back-up but 2nd year back Alfonso Smith is a good bet to lead the team in touches while Beanie is out. He's deep flier material in Dynasty leagues at best.
Shonn Greene has turned in 3 solid weeks in a row as the Jets returned to the best form of ground and pound they could. His skills are average, but if he's going to get fed the ball 20 times a game, he's likely to be a solid RB3/Flex play for the remainder of the season. If you have the depth, sell now.
Matt Forte continues to be a yardage machine. Jay Cutler is above average, but this is Forte's offense and his dual threat ability makes him elite.
Arian Foster is rounding into RB1 form nicely.
Chris Johnson, not so much.
Greg Jennings continues to be a very reliable WR1 this season. Yes Aaron Rodgers spreads the ball around to anyone that is open, but Jennings is clearly his go-to.
Roy Williams "broke out" for the Bears on Sunday, turning in 4 catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Mike Williams Tampa Bay turned in his best yardage of the season with 75 on 6 catches. He is stuck on 1 TD for the year, but he still has Beastly upside. His owner was likely expecting big things after 11 TD's as a rookie, so now is the time to shoot him or her an offer.
Jared Cook has not broken out just yet, but continues to be a TE2. Long term, the elite upside remains and he's definitely someone to target.
